Professor Janko Tahovi\u0107, the author of the first textbook on Criminology in the Serbian language<\/p><\/div>\n

The term Criminology<\/em> was first used in Serbia by Professor Toma \u017divanovi\u0107 at the begining of the 20th<\/sup> century as a generic concept for all criminal law sciences. Criminology has become a scientific discipline in Serbia after the Second World War, firstly at School of Law at the University of Belgrade.The author of the first textbook on Criminology, which was published in 1946, was Janko Tahovi\u0107, Professor at School of Law at the University of Belgrade. This textbook represented a collection of his lectures on Criminology. During the 1960s interest for this science became visible. At that time the Institute for Criminology was founded as well as Yugoslav Society for Criminology and Criminal Law. The trend of development continued until 1980s when period of stagnation ensued. During the transitional period, Criminology followed the suite. However, in past years situation has improved \u2013 the first Society of Criminology was founded, the Ministry of Science accepted to finance several projects from this field, edition Crimen<\/em> was created and within it many books on criminology topics were published.<\/p>\n

Prof. Dr Milan Milutinovi\u0107 (1916-1996) was a professor of Criminology at School of Law at the University of Belgrade, the first and for many years director at the Institute for Research in Criminology and Sociology in Belgrade. He established a Police College in Belgrade. Among many of his works, the most important are books Criminology<\/em>, Penology<\/em>, Politics of Crime Suppression<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Prof. Dr Obrad Peri\u0107 (1936-2011) was the first honorary president of the Section for Criminology. He was the greatest expert on juvenile criminal law and juvenile delinquency. In the period \u00a01980-1995 he was a member of the Scientific Commission within the International Society for Criminology. The author of more than 130 works from the field of Criminology and related scientific disciplines.
