In June 2017 Serbian Section of Criminology announced a competition for the best essay on the theme “Media, Crime and Youth”. In April 2019 the Committee for the evaluation of articles, comprised of the members of the Section’s Presidency, reached an unanimous decision on the received works. The award ceremony was held on May the 21st at the Law Faculty University of Belgrade. Financial award for the winner of the competition was given once again by “Fila” law office from Belgrade. To all prize winners sets of books were provided by Law Faculty University of Belgrade and the publishing company “Dosije”. The article awarded with the first prize will be published in the journal Crimen and the paper awarded with the second prize will be published in the journal Review for Criminology and Criminal Law.

On February the 21st in the Serbian Academy of Arts and Sciences at the session of the Committee for the population study a translation of the book “The guards of concentration camps for Serbs in the north of Norway” (author Nils Christie) was presented. The book was translated from Russian version by prof. dr Rajko Bukvić and published in the edition Crimen.

Promotion of the book “The media, crime and the courts”

At the Faculty of Security University of Belgrade on March the 26th, 2019, the book “The media, crime and the courts,” whose author is Dr. Aleksandra Ilić, was promoted. During the presentation of the monograph audience was addressed by the Dean of the Faculty of Security professor. Dr. Vladimir Cvetković, prof. Dr. Djordje Ignjatović, Appellate Court judge Miodrag Majić, journalist Momir Ilić and author.

The award ceremony was held on 29th of May 2015 at the Faculty of Law in Belgrade. Financial award for the winner of the competition was given for the second time by the “Fila” law firm from Belgrade. To all prize winners sets of books were given by the Faculty of Law in Belgrade and the publishing company “Dosije”. The  work awarded with the first prize will be published in the Review for Criminology and Criminal Law, and the article awarded with the second prize in the thematic collection of papers Criminal Law Reaction in Serbia.

Bilateralna saradnjaWithin the bilateral project “Legitimacy of policing and criminal justice systems in Slovenia and Serbia – comparative approach”, the first meeting of the working group was held in Ljubljana in the period from 19th to 21st of March 2015. Members of the research group of the Law Faculty University of Belgrade are professor Đorđe Ignjatović, assistant professor Vanja Bajović and lecturer Natalija Lukić. Members of the Faculty for Security Studies University of Maribor are professor Gorazd Meško, professor Bojan Tičar and assistant professor Katja Eman. At the meeting it was discussed about the methodology of the research on legitimacy of policing and criminal justice and about the questionnaire that will be analyzed. Results of the research will be published in criminal justice journals both in Slovenia and Serbia. The next meeting of the working group will be held in Belgrade in September 2015.

Professor Jean Pradel, one of the leading French and European comparativists, will visit Faculty of Law

in Belgrade in the last week of October 2014. On that occasion prof. Pradel will give two interesting lectures.

The first lecture will be given on October 28th 2014. at 14:00 on the theme “Droit pénal européen et droits pénaux nationaux”(European Criminal Law and National Criminal Laws).

The second lecture will be given on October 29th 2014. at 14:00 on the theme “Leçon inaugurale à un cours de droit pénal comparé” (Introduction into Comparative Criminal Law).

Professor Jean Pradel will be awarded an honorary plaque of the Serbian Society for Criminal Law Theory and Practice.

Balkan Criminology1st Annual Conference of the Max Planck Partner Group for Balkan Criminology “Mapping the Criminological Landscape of the Balkans” was  held in Zagreb from 28th to 30th of August 2014. Status of Criminology in Serbia was presented by Lecturer Natalija Lukić. The article “Criminology and Crime in Serbia”, of the authors Prof. Dr Djordje Ignjatović and Lecturer Natalija Lukić will be published in the collection of papers of all participants of the meeting.

Professor Dragan Milovanovic (Northeastern Illinois University), who is one of the most influential criminologists today and a honorary member of the Section visited School of Law in Belgrade in March 2014. On that occasion Prof. Milovanovic gave lecture to students at undergraduate studies on the topic “Quantum Holographic Critical Criminology” and presented a completely different criminological approach, thoroughly explained in his book which will be published in USA. Although the topic was complicated, Prof. Milovanovic managed to present it to students very clearly and interesting.

 Professor David Friedrichs (University of Scranton) visited School of Law in Belgrade in April 2014. On that occasion Prof. Friedrichs, who is a honorary member of the Section, gave lecture to students at undergraduate course on the topic ” Wall Street: Crime Never Sleeps”. In that way students had an opportunity to learn more about specific form of white collar crime whose offenders are the most influential people within the financial and banking sector in USA. Everyone interested in this topic will have the opportunity to read some of the attitudes of Prof. Friedrichs in the first issue of the journal Crimen for this year.

The Section has made special efforts to gather young people, interested in criminology. Thus every two years the Section gives prize for the best essay (until now, three prizes have been given for essays on the following topics: „Applicability of Criminological Theories in Controlling Crime in Serbia“, Influence of Cultural Factors on Crime“, „Young People and Crime“). Currently, reward competition for essays on the topic „Ecological Crime“ is open.
