As of 2008, the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law organises the Belgrade Open Pre-moot competition in cooperation with the GIZ Open Regional Fund, Foreign-Trade Arbitration Court attached to the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, Belgrade City Hall and a number of renowned law firms as a preparation for the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot.  As of 2012, the German Institution of Arbitration – DIS is part of the Belgrade Open Pre-moot organizing board and is contributing significantly to its successful organization. In 2013, the organizing board of the Pre-moot was further extended by participation and support of Serbian Arbitration Association.

Over the years the Belgrade Open Pre-moot has become the biggest pre-moot tournament for the Vis Moot which only in 2017 gathered teams from 79 universities coming from 39 countries of the world: from North and South America, Europe and Asia to Australia with over 300 arbitrators arbitrating more than 170 hearing that took place over the weekend. In recognition of the importance of the Belgrade Open Pre-moot and the hard work of its organizers, Ass. Prof. Dr Milena Djordjević, General Secretary of the Pre-Moot was in April 2017 given the honor by the Vis Moot directors to present the award for the best Claimant memorandum to the teams that participated at the XXIV Willem C Vis Moot.
